 Health Policy

A sick child should not be in school.  A child would be considered sick if suffering from any of the following:

  • High fever
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Or any contagious illness

If a child develops symptoms of illness while in care, the parent will be contacted.  Depending on the situation, the parent may just need to be made aware of the situation or might be asked to pick up the child.  In any case, the ill child will be kept comfortable and segregated, if necessary, from the other children.

If the child requires emergency medical care, the parent will be contacted.  If the parent cannot be reached, the following procedure will be followed:

  1. The child's doctor will be called and his/her instructions will be followed.
  2. If the doctor is not available, the child will be taken to the nearest emergency facility, which is Putnam Hospital Center.  I will accompany the child to the hospital and my substitute / assistant will supervise the other children in school.  Under no circumstances will a child be left alone.
  3. My assistant will continue to try to contact the parent.

 Medical Report

The parent must supply the child's complete medical record prior to placement or shortly thereafter on the required form.  This record will be kept in your child's folder and should be renewed annually.  The child must have received all scheduled immunizations required for their age.  (Medical forms are not required for school-age children.)

 Medications

This program does not administer any medication to the children.  If medication is necessary during the day, the parent or other relative must be present to administer the medicine.
